The Wars in the Sky – And the War Zones Within

When the world is at war, it doesn’t only reflect in the sky - it also reflects something within us.

My spiritual master, Paramahamsa Vishwananda, often says that we, too, contribute to the grand conflicts in the world through those things that remain volatile and unresolved in ourselves. These are like negative charges that we keep carrying within and that eventually keep adding together, resulting in bigger world events.

In times like this a powerful question we can ask ourselves is: which inner wars are still unresolved within me? What do I struggle to find peace with? And how can I bring more stability to my own inner war zones?

Planets can often offer us some guidance.

In the last three months we have experienced an extraordinary amount of planetary wars, combustions and stelliums accumulated in a very short time. And then there came eclipses. It wasn’t an easy beginning of the year.

The external military conflict started shortly before the eclipse season, indicating a strong involvement of the lunar nodes. Rahu in sidereal Aquarius and Ketu in sidereal Leo reflect potential power struggles and the fear of not having (or being) enough, which often lead to greed and excessive need to control the situation, as well as the resources.

In the world outside we are observing now a massive battle between monopoly and autonomy, which inspires us to ask where do we experience that battle right now in our lives. Where do we struggle to maintain our autonomy and stay true to who we are? In which areas of life fear is overshadowing the best in us? Where are we overprotective or trying to control the circumstances too much?

Saturn, the dispositor of Rahu, for one more week will remain conjuct with Sun, the dispositor of Ketu, which amplifies the conflict between what is good for the individual and what is good for the collective. We may experience our judgement being more clouded than usual in this period. Since Mars joined sidereal Pisces just recently, there may be more volatility and frustration than usual.

We will feel more easily triggered. And this is exactly why it’s the best time to work with those triggers. See where in our life we lose patience and hope nowadays. What makes us go defensive. How fear shapes the way we relate to difficult circumstances.

This is by no means an easy line of inquiry – but this is exactly what planets want from us right now: to look at the uncomfortable. To not hide away from responsibility. To learn to hold space for complexity and resist the urge of going into too polarised thinking.

After all, like Bhagavad Gita teaches us, the real Kurukshetra, the real battlefield, is always within. And for most of us this is the place where we can create a real difference.
