Planetary Wars & How They Impact Us

"The planets that move in the sky at great distances from one another, when they appear to approach each other (due to their proximity in longitude), it is called Yuddha (War) by the shastras, because they appear to be fighting." - Brihat Samhita

Vedic Astrology Principles

Traditional definition of a Graha Yuddha, or a planetary war, says that whenever Tara Grahas (Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn) are within one degree from each other, both in terms of longitude and latitude, this results in a planetary war. Traditionally, Sun, Moon, Rahu and Ketu are not taken into consideration. Sometimes even two planets on some degree (in term of longitude) are not considered to be in a planetary war at all if the distance between their latitude is too big.

That’s the theory.

Now, the practice often reveals something else. When I backtrack some of my own life events which came in with biggest intensity (either big turning points or big health struggles), I can see that literally all of them have one thing in common: there was always a significant meeting of two planets on the same degree. The latitude of the two planets was not necessarily close to each other. The planets involved were not always Tara Grahas. In fact, tight conjuction between a Graha and Rahu or Ketu seem to bring higher intensity than a Graha Yuddha between two Tara Grahas.

This is why although not every planetary meeting is a Graha Yuddha by definition, one thing is certain: every planetary meeting on the same degree is without doubt significant.

This is why I specifically wanted that our Vedic Calendar displays the date of every planetary meeting – so that every Vedic Astrology seeker can easily track them. You can access it here.

Planetary meetings can be also beautifully interpreted through Kalachakra principle – which is something we are going to dive into, as well, on our upcoming Kalachakra workshop.
